I started reading this dog story and I thought, "Well now, Goth's just all hepped on her puppy. Good for her. Life moves on after the group, tho what this has to do with our cult experience I don't know." Then you went and pulled the punch line and it hit me. Yeah, that was a good one.
If I was in the Family right now and looking out a window into the real world (via the Internet) and I read that story, I'd kind of feel like that little puppy and hope there was a Goth mommy out there somewhere wanting to take me in. And maybe a big doggie who would have patience and teach me that all the dented-in parts of my life could start coming out again. And I could be a real person, live my own conscience, and be me.
Like the little puppy who was about to be put down, had been deprived and neglected and damaged, just get a new chance at life and healing can begin in little ways and we can start to "un-dent" bit by bit and regain our sense of self, just like that puppy who only needed a chance.
Touching story, Goth.
