It's the same reason that Michael Jackson owns all of Paul McCartney's songs. McCartney can whine all he wants but there's nothing he can do about it except write some more songs.
John Fogarty of Creedance Clearwater sold the rights to his song Running through the Jungle. Then he wrote another song called Old Man Down the Road - and because the second song used the same basic music as the one he sold the owner of the first song sued him and got all the profits from the second song. Too bad - so sad.
