I would recommend soy based products, tofu, miso, etc. They apparently contain natural estrogen which and it is believed the Japanese women suffer a lot less from menopause than others because of it.
You may also consider having a hormone check up and checking your progesterone levels. Check out this site
Drlee.com
He has researched estrogen and menopause and other hormone related subjects in depth and according to him women aren't being treated accurately, and need more progesterone rather than estrogen.
From my reading, progesterone is the "grandmother" hormone from which the others, estrogen, testosterone, DHEA, etc. are made. The progesterone dictates whether to produce more of one and cut back another, so if your progesterone levels are low then your body won't be in balance. I still don't have it all sorted out, but it's just what I'm studying right now. Prenenolone is another controlling hormone, I believe comes before progesterone, and without it, the others aren't made.
I am using a natural progesterone cream, which has DHEA added. Though I am in my 30s, and normally you probably wouldn't start taking it until later, I wanted to try it out, and use the cream in a 3 week cycle, giving your body a break for a week, I follow my normal monthly cycle with it.
I'll let you know more as I find out, but seriously, the site by Dr.Lee has some good information about it, and he recommends some creams. I can recommend some stuff to but will do it in an email.
