Glad to be here. It's much different! I was in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia for about 9months about 1980 before returning to Europe. We (myself, kids and a West German guy) went to join others there. We were told via letter it was okay to go, but once there, we didn't have the "proper" clearance, so the f. left us out in the heat (it's never cold there as you know!) anyway, we both sang and played music. We spent about a month in Indonesia and then went to Singapore. We were on our own and trying to figure out how to get back to Europe which is very costly. The W. German Embassy would pay for the German guy, but the Amer. Emb. wouldn't help us (me and the kids) So we sang and raised money. One restaurant in Djakarta was a contact we made. We went there to sing one nite, and almost no one was there, but we decided to go ahead. A chinese man who sat quietly eating while we played, called us over after and gave us a large donation. Then we had also me a man who was Pres. of the classical guitar assoc.. in Indonesia, and we played for his students that night. They made a collection for us. With this we went to Singapore, on a boat! That was one wild trip I NEVER want to experience again, not even in a nightmare! But we got there and would go back and forth over the border to Malaysia to renew our visas every 2 weeks. While in S., we met a guy from a productions co. that lined up a tour for us to sing in Hong Kong, Borneo,Singapore etc. Just before this went thru, the G. guy and I went out singing and the newspaper there did an article on us. G gave them our address and the S. plainclothes police showed up at the door the next morning at dawn. We were politely told that we would have to go to Malaysia to get the visas but everything would be fine. We left our main possessions in s. But when we went to return we couldn't get back in! Anyway that's a long story. So if you saw us, it would have been by coincidence because we weren't accepted in by the f. there. G.'s dad helped me and the kids get back and we went back to Germany, where we had left from.
