They had taken care of their little David, a severely handicapped child for so many years, bringing him along to different mission fields. Then Phineas one day took him to Florida, and dumped him on some Christian lady, and never looked back. Years later, they didn't know if he was dead or alive.
Being they strong and wonderful people they are, I believe with all my heart that if Phineas and Rebecca hadn't been pressured to do so from leadership and the mo letters, that they would have kept their little David. They would have found a way to make life better for themselves and their own children.
So much for caring for the weak. So much for " inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Real convenient that America is supposed to be Babylon the Great but has Christian ladies with big hearts willing to take care of your children for nothing in return.
In my book, that Christian lady did more than Phineas and Rebecca did, running around lying about what they were doing for a living in order to collect donations, sending their kids out to sing and work as slave labor to pay for a home they could hardly afford. Having their other children develop all kinds of problems. Having young people develop severe mental and emotional problems right under their nose and not know about it while they were shepherds. Leadership even separated them. Wow, all this glorious missionary work they had to do for years so they had to abandon their own child.
I love Phin and Rebecca, but what I saw I didn't like. I hope their conscience pricked at them hard.
