I don't live in the USA, but work for the air industry. If he wants info, he can go to the FAA website where they give you tips on how to travel by air and what to bring or not to bring. As for the buses, Greyhound has specials to go from one place to the other with a fixed price for a period of time. You can also go to their website. http://www.faa.gov/ (aviation)
and that is for the Greyhound site. Here in Canada, they don't check your luggage when you travel by train or by bus. But by plane, as you can see, they are a lot of rules of what to bring or not to bring especially in your carry-on luggage.
