The Tears of a Mother
I remember when you were my daughter
you looked up to me
I was so tall, in your eyes
I remember when I knew you
we understood each other,
Mother and daughter as we were
Such a tiny little baby
A honey-colored haired little girl
you held my hand and
we went everywhere, together
Until one day, I knew you no more
I looked in your eyes and could not see
the honey-colored haired little girl
A gulf, a chasm, an abyss, a great expanse,
a separation, from dawn to dusk
You returned, no longer my daughter,
and I, no longer your mother
But the void keeps looking, pondering,
groping,
for the honey-colored haired little girl,
who held my hand and we went everywhere,
together
Will all be as once was, one day?
will we know as we were known,
someday
a mother and daughter, so close in heart,
so deep in understanding
All will be well, we are told,
yet how can I know, and who can tell me,
so sure, so smug, so right
To the honey-colored haired little girl,
who once was my daughter,
who held my hand, so tight,
the emptiness in my heart
can only be satisfied
by the honey-colored haired little girl
I will wait,
forever and a day
to be mother and daughter again
one day
