I'm not bothered as much by the use of handles, as I am by people who switch names a lot in order to create the appearance that their opinion is supported by more than just one person. I've also seen folks who post under different names and actually argue with themselves.
But, the thing that really bothers me is when someone knows that a specific name was already in play before they came along, and they insist on using that name anyway. It makes it very confusing to figure out what is going on, and can cause misunderstandings.
One of the features I like that we have over at the board that I work with is the ability to password protect ones name, to prevent others from using it. I don't know how difficult that would be to implement over here, but it might be something to look into.
