I've been posting on the boards, off and on for about four years now. Lately, I've surfed the boards, but haven't posted much. And yes, I'm posting anonymously, although many of you will know who I am.
I've been thining about the anger, the regret, the lost years of those who have been involved in abusive cults. I read the anger, and the venom that comes out on the boards.
Who's to blame? Jules seems to blame the parents. But honestly, the parents were also young people once. The majority joined the COG when they were young people. Yet, some young people blame their parents for the COG.
Who is to blame?
In my city, there are many cults flourishing. I see young people getting involved in these cults. you can tell by the way they dress, how they dress, how they talk. The youth are vulnerable. They are easily misled.
So, young people can say "It's my parents fault." They can blame the older generation. Meanwhile, score of their own generation are making the same mistake that their parents made.
I think that young people need to forgive their parents, and learn from their parents' mistakes. They should be happy that the 'older' generation eventually escaped the snares of the COG. They should look back, and sigh a sigh of relief, and be happy with the fact that they are not there any longer. And also, they should be happy that some first generation COGers are out of the cult, and attempting to educate the public on the evils of the cult.
The blame game could go on forever.
Each one of us are to blame to a certain extent. The past can't be erased. But the future can be changed, if we each take control of our own lives and press on to better things.
