I was thinking it was kind of ironic that I have been accused of not caring about welfare mothers. My initial statement was about families that are abusing their children and the children being put in foster care - it wasn't about welfare mothers per se. Ironically, it was welfare mothers that turned me into a conservative thinker. When I left the family I returned to school and went to a junior college. What I found there were multitudes of single mothers who had to resort to welfare because their spouses/boyfriends had left them and the children for no apparent good reason other than they were tired of the responsibility and moved on to greener pastures leaving their families in the dust. These mothers were the sweetest things and I spent most of my free time with them. We were even going to start an off campus club with a newsletter and I was going to speerhead it as a way of helping them with such things as encouragement, tips, job finding, day care, etc., etc. Unfortunately for them, I got a job and left campus. I must have come across in a very unclear manner for someone to think that I have no heart or concern for mothers on welfare. I apologize for that.
