Well, I think it certainly forms a significant part of your worldview. Especially your marxist example. But when it gets to specific political parties and policies, I'm not so sure how much. For example, Bush, a Republican, is pushing the US into debt far faster than the Democrats ever did. He has pushed America into overseas adventures far faster than the Democrats ever did. It gets muddy. So staunch Republicans are actually acting like Democrats.
I have friends that have very different views than me on politics, but we are drawn together by common values and views in other areas. I accept that -- the limits or parameters of our friendship, so to speak.
That's my view of it all.
