You answered your own question. Selah means to pause & think about it, so it became a standard thing to say to a brother when he was about to blurt out sensitive information to outsiders/systemites. You'd say 'Selah' or 'Think before you speak.' From there the word usage morphed to mean 'It's a secret. Don't speak about it.' In Family usage selah came to mean secret. A selah home was a secret home unknown even to rank & file Family members.
I know, I know. Now you're going to ask why Family members are called rank (stinky) and file (to file away a surface material).
Let's call them 'field homes' then. Oh, & field home comes from the expression in John where Jesus referred to the 'fields' as unsaved souls.
