Great of you to post on this issue. I work in the Canadian social service system, often with victims of child abuse(40% of case load).
Most of the real seasoned professionals I work with, doctors, social workers, cops, therapists and others hate that research stuff that suggests that child abuse may not be so dangerous( the term I hear at times is childhood sexual encounters). The clinical staff I frequently work with are totally appalled by it. They will not even consider its validity based on the safety issues alone of taking any position remotely associated with this "new emerging study". Some social scientists like to play with concepts and research data while forgetting that the potential for harm translates into real people being affected by their theories.
I totally agree with your position on this issue. As a victim of sexual abuse by catholic clergy, I would like to go back in time and drop the mutts who did this research (made back into young boys ) into the institution where I was abused. They would quickly find out how far off theory can be at times.
