It is clear you understood my point below, but I can't dismiss the importance of the control thing you are talking about.
I also agree with you that different people break away in different ways. I also see divine intervention in my separation. When I left, totally on my own accord, what I needed was a lot of time to separate myself from that past and then some more time to deal with each issue. It helps discussing them with others who were there and peal the onion, so to speak. More important than agreeing is to be able to talk about things from different perspectives.
